Warehouse for Herbert Heldt KG

A specialist wholesaler needs 1800 m² space

The requirement: Rapid construction of a hall on a plot of land with a slope of over 1.5%

Creating a storage area that met stringent hygiene requirements was the challenge facing Herbert Heldt KG. The specialist wholesaler for building technology offers, among other things, materials for ventilation systems. While the ventilation ducts could previously be stored outdoors, a change in hygiene regulations necessitated a new solution. The ventilation ducts must be protected from contamination, such as pollen. Large plastic sheets for the individual ducts were one option – or a warehouse. Since individual sheets were neither economically nor ecologically viable, Herbert Heldt KG quickly opted for an 1800 m² warehouse in Herchenbach as a cost-effective and sustainable solution.

Gradient compensation

A lightweight building can be erected on a slope of up to 1.5% without modifications. The Herbert Heldt KG property has a steeper slope. Therefore, the supports of the building were shortened on one side. The roller door was also adjusted accordingly.

System design

Herchenbach's lightweight halls are built using a modular system of aluminum profiles. This modular construction method significantly reduces planning time. A 1000 m² hall can be assembled in one week. When the hall is no longer needed, it can be quickly dismantled.

Ground pin anchoring

No additional foundation was required for the lightweight construction of the hall. The ground is paved. The hall was anchored with ground anchors. This reduces the construction time by several weeks and significantly lowers the costs of building the hall.

Insulation

The stored material is not sensitive to temperature. However, Herbert Heldt KG opted for wall cladding made of insulated panels. This also makes heating the hall feasible if employees work in the building for extended periods during the winter.

Base profile

An internal floor profile is used as a barrier against moisture and splashing water.

Fire protection

The lightweight hall was built close to the existing building. A building code-approved "hard roof" is resistant to sparks and prevents fire spread. For this purpose, a fiberglass fleece is installed in addition to the roof membrane made of high-tensile industrial PVC.

Lightweight warehouse from Herchenbach
  • Herchenbach constructed a 20 m x 90 m warehouse for Herbert Held KG. This resulted in 1,800 m² of additional storage space, completed in just 14 days.
  • Thanks to the modular construction system, the lightweight halls are not only quick to plan and erect, but with the purchase of the hall, Herbert Heldt KG has also found a long-term storage solution.
  • The halls in Herchenbach are certified according to DIN 1991 as "permanent structures" with a service life of up to 50 years. Construction is possible in all wind and snow load zones of Germany.

Herbert Heldt KG
  • Herbert Heldt KG is a specialist wholesaler for building technology based in Bergkamen (North Rhine-Westphalia). A member of the GC Group, the wholesaler has been supplying trade professionals with products for plumbing, heating, air conditioning/ventilation, roofing, and electrical engineering for approximately 60 years. Over 30 external warehouses ensure exceptionally short delivery times.
  • The company, with its passion for "green technologies," focuses on innovative, resource-efficient products. To this end, it not only provides ongoing training for its own team but also offers workshops for skilled tradespeople.
Time was a crucial factor, as the hall had to be ready for use quickly. And everything went very smoothly. This wasn't just due to the hall's construction. The collaboration with Herchenbach was also quick and seamless. Furthermore, the lightweight hall was the most economical solution for us.

Increased safety from start to finish

The implementation: Why Herchenbach's full-service offers added value

Herchenbach halls offer added value. From the initial contact, a personal contact person is available throughout all phases of the project. Even after handover, customer service assists with any questions regarding dismantling, modifications, and repairs. Additional services can be added to the comprehensive package. Herbert Heldt KG took advantage of the pre-assembly inspection.

In many cases, lightweight halls do not require a foundation. A paved or asphalted surface is sufficient for quick and inexpensive ground anchoring. Pre-assembly inspection prevents unpleasant surprises.

  • During the geometry check, the dimensions of the hall, including minimum clearances, are marked. For Herbert Heldt KG, the hall not only had to fit into the existing building structure, but also allow access to another hall through the hall. This was crucial for the positioning of the roller doors.
  • The ground scan provides information about whether there are any pipes or cables running underground. This is important for the placement of the ground anchors.
  • During pull-out tests with ground anchors, the soil's strength is checked at several locations. At Herbert Heldt KG, it turned out that the soil had to be further compacted to ensure a safe building structure.
  • The elevation profile is measured using laser technology. This reveals whether the supports can be installed as planned. Shortening the frame allows for compensation of any slope. At Herbert Heldt KG, it also became apparent that the lightweight hall had to be adapted to the specific terrain.

The result was a cost-effective warehouse built in a very short time, perfectly suited to the specific storage requirements and operational processes of Herbert Heldt KG. The pre-assembly inspection allowed the building to be precisely tailored to the site's conditions.
