The Filament Factory: Extra wide hall

The Filament Factory produces high-tenacity polyester yarns for the automotive and aerospace industries, among others. At its Bad Hersfeld (Hesse) site, the company manufactures 240 million kilometers of filament yarn annually – enough to circle the Earth six times.

To store the spools onto which the yarns are wound for shipping to customers, the company needed more space. "The company restructured its floor space and adjusted its workflows, which is why we needed new warehouses," explains Udo Langer, Head of Building Management at The Filament Factory.

Herchenbach built a large hall with 2,700 square meters of floor space and a smaller hall with 800 square meters for the Bad Hersfeld-based company. The two halls are connected by a covered walkway.

Storage for filament yarn: The requirements

Rapid Availability: The hall solution for The Filament Factory needed to be implemented quickly. Thanks to the modular construction of the lightweight halls, the planning time is short. 1,000 m² of hall space can be assembled in one week.

Flexibility: Herchenbach also offers warehouses with large, unsupported spans. The absence of internal columns makes maneuvering within the hall easier.

Mobility: Unlike steel halls, lightweight halls are not welded but bolted together. If the company's needs change, the halls can be easily dismantled and reassembled at a different location.

Moisture Protection: The polyester filaments must be stored dry. Lightweight halls offer more than just weather protection. An additional inner liner protects the stored goods from dripping condensation.

UV Protection: The warehouse roof, made of highly tear-resistant industrial PVC, blocks 99.8% of UVA and UVB radiation. This provides optimal protection for the stored goods from sunlight.

Dry unloading: Herchenbach has constructed a complex of halls for The Filament Factory. The two halls are connected by tunnels. These, along with the canopy, prevent employees or materials from getting wet during loading and unloading.

The Herchenbach company offered the fastest solution. Furthermore, the mobility of the hall was important to us. If the processes change, the building can also be quickly adapted.

Herchenbach constructed two lightweight halls for The Filament Factory, connected by roofs. The larger hall has a clear span of 30 meters and a length of over 90 meters, while the smaller hall measures 20 meters by 40 meters.

The halls feature insulated wall cladding, making heating more efficient in winter (more information about the insulated hall can be found on the Therm+ page).

For enhanced fire protection, the halls are equipped with a hard roof. This provides better protection for stored goods against sparks and fire spread in the event of a fire.

The Filament Factory is a leading manufacturer of polyester threads for sewing applications, coated fabrics and filaments, textile construction, automotive seat belts, drive belts, and hoses.

Since 1966, the company has been producing at its Bad Hersfeld (Hesse) site according to strict quality standards. In addition to developing new technologies, the company also continuously expands its product portfolio. Its customers are primarily companies in the automotive and aerospace industries. Warehouse construction with added service

Herchenbach offers a range of services related to hall construction that can be easily added to your order. The Filament Factory took advantage of the pre-assembly inspection. This involves examining the ground to determine its suitability for cost-effective ground anchoring. This saves time and money because no foundation is required. Dismantling the hall is also straightforward.

Even after turnkey handover, Herchenbach's customer service is available to answer any questions you may have about hall construction. They can not only book service inspections but also organize hall expansions or relocations. This allows the warehouse to be adapted to the company's changing needs as needed.
