What are storage tents?
Storage tents are temporary structures. They consist of a metal frame, movable walls, and a roof. Companies erect storage tents to create covered storage space at short notice. They are primarily used to store goods that are not temperature-sensitive. The advantages are clear: the tents are much cheaper and quicker to build than permanent structures.
Often, anchoring with ground stakes is sufficient. A foundation is not required. For the first three to six months, storage tents are considered "temporary structures" and do not require a building permit. They offer year-round protection from moisture and UV radiation. Because they are needed as a quick solution, customization is not a priority. The walls are usually not insulated.

How long does a storage tent last?

What materials are storage tents made of?
A storage tent is a kit. It consists of a collapsible frame and a cover. There are simple structures with a single side panel and high-quality, reusable constructions. Herchenbach professionally builds storage tents using premium materials. The frame is constructed from sturdy aluminum profiles.
The solid walls are made of robust trapezoidal sheet metal. If the storage tent requires insulation, sandwich panels are installed. The structure can be heated. What sizes of storage tents are available?
For lightweight storage tents, the components are industrially prefabricated. Using a modular system, the tent width, length, and eave height are combined to create a customized tent size. Large, unsupported widths are also available in multi-bay configurations. There is no fixed maximum tent length. The length can be freely selected in truss spacings of 4m or 5m. Several ridge heights offer varying entrance heights.

How are storage tents secured?
Storage tents can be secured in several ways. Whether ground anchors or heavy-duty anchors are used depends on structural and building requirements. An important criterion is the ground surface. Herchenbach storage tents can be easily anchored to existing ground. For ground anchors and anchor plates, an area of asphalt, paving stones, or gravel is sufficient. The building site must be compacted. Construction without anchoring is not feasible, nor is anchoring in bare topsoil. Construction without a foundation reduces the construction time by approximately four weeks and significantly lowers construction costs. Herchenbach uses experienced assembly teams for hall construction who know the product inside and out. This ensures safe assembly and guarantees short assembly times. The installers can assemble a 1000 m² storage tent in approximately one week.
Does a storage tent require a building permit?
A storage tent is considered a "temporary structure." According to DIN 13782, erection is permitted without a building permit for 3 to 6 months. During this period, only notification is required. A logbook with TÜV-certified structural analysis must be submitted to the permitting authority.
If the structure remains in place for a longer period, Herchenbach storage tents require a building permit. According to DIN 1991, they are considered "permanent structures" and therefore eligible for a permit. Each building permit is granted on a case-by-case basis by the local building authority. Is a storage tent storm-proof?
Wind and storms exert significant forces on a building, impacting its structural integrity. The expected wind loads depend on the location. Germany has four wind load zones. The structural analysis for our lightweight halls incorporates these local wind loads. These are the same values used for steel or concrete structures. Therefore, our storage tents remain safe even at high wind speeds. Our structures can withstand wind loads of up to 1.0 kN/m².
Are storage tents suitable for winter use?
Weatherproof storage tents are suitable for winter use. When calculating the structural integrity, the snow loads at the installation site must be considered. Herchenbach tents can withstand snow loads of up to 1.35 kN/m². These maximum values can be exceeded with the use of additional load-bearing capacity.
Features and Fire Protection
Speed is paramount during setup. Features play a minor role. High-quality modular storage tents offer various options. The walls are available with or without insulation. Doors can be selected from sliding, roller, or sectional options. The customer determines the door positions.
The roof, made of waterproof PVC tarpaulin, is available with or without insulation. An inner liner protects stored goods from condensation. Windows and skylights provide natural light. This allows for individual planning and adaptation to the company's specific requirements.
