FAQs
From bulk materials to temperature-sensitive products, a wide range of items can be stored depending on the warehouse type. The lower the requirements of the stored goods, the simpler the building equipment can be. Uninsulated cold warehouses provide sufficient weather and theft protection for goods that do not require specific temperatures. If heating is needed, insulated walls are recommended. Special storage regulations apply when storing chemicals.
As an open warehouse, the Cover+ canopy provides basic protection against rain and UV radiation. Installed as a gable or side canopy, it enables dry loading, unloading and picking operations even for large warehouse buildings.
A warehouse without insulation, such as the Safe+ cold hall, is cost-efficient. It provides weather and theft protection and is also used as a maintenance hall, vehicle hall or aircraft hangar.
Insulated warehouses such as the Therm+ warm hall feature wall panels made of ISO elements, offering frost protection for sensitive goods. Heating becomes more energy-efficient and noise protection is improved.
The ideal height depends on the stored goods and the required vehicle clearance. For floor storage, an eaves height of 3.4 m is usually sufficient. Industrial warehouses typically have heights around 6 m. Higher heights are recommended for rack storage but require attention to heating energy consumption.
Floor load capacity depends on the substructure. Whether asphalt, paving with base layers, or a concrete foundation is used influences permissible loads. In addition to the building weight, rack loads, vehicle loads and stored goods must be considered. A structural engineer evaluates whether the ground can carry the load. If no foundation is desired, Herchenbach offers a pre-assembly inspection including geometry checks, height measurements, pull-out tests for ground anchors and a ground scan to detect underground utilities.
Temporary structures can often be installed for a limited period under permitted development rights, though this varies depending on your local authority and site circumstances. Our team can advise on what applies to your specific situation.
For permanent installations, full planning permission is typically required. Herchenbach's modular warehouses are engineered and certified for long-term use. Our UK team provides free support in preparing all documentation required for your planning application.
Warehouses are smaller than production or industrial buildings. An average warehouse has about 500–600 m². In industry, warehouses with several thousand square metres are also common. Herchenbach specialises in B2B warehouses tailored to industrial requirements.
