Reduce energy costs with an innovative photovoltaic solution

Photovoltaic systems are a hot topic. The conditions of global climate change are putting immense pressure on the promotion of alternative energy sources. Photovoltaic systems play a crucial role not only in the private sector.

Why is the use of photovoltaic systems on the roof of a lightweight building sensible?

The average lightweight building for our industrial customers is 550 m² in size and has a large roof area. This makes it ideally suited for the installation of photovoltaic systems.

Benefits for companies

  • CO2 reduction: By producing renewable energy, companies can significantly reduce their carbon footprint. In addition to individual CO2 reduction targets, a photovoltaic system can be mandatory for new buildings and a quick way to make your company more climate-neutral.
  • Cost savings: By producing your own solar power, you reduce your electricity costs and are at the same time more independent from fluctuating energy prices.
  • Funding: In Germany, there are various government funding programs and financing options for the installation of PV systems. These can significantly reduce investment costs and improve the profitability of the project.
  • Innovative not only in hall construction: What makes our PV system so special? Herchenbach's in-house engineering department is constantly developing our products and has optimized the use of the systems for industrial tents in collaboration with two PV module manufacturers.

Those were our requirements

  • Low weight: Herchenbach uses lightweight photovoltaic modules. The flexible PV modules weigh only slightly more than 3 kg per m². This makes them significantly lighter than glass PV constructions, which weigh 12 to 15 kg per m².
  • Utilizing the modular system: Herchenbach leverages the advantages of aluminum construction for its lightweight, modular buildings. Thanks to the lightweight photovoltaic modules, we didn't have to modify our existing structural calculations – the entire substructure is eliminated.
  • Easy installation: The photovoltaic system is installed from the eaves; there is no need to access the roof. The modules are inserted using a keder-groove system, in the same way as the highly tear-resistant roofing membrane. Installation can therefore be carried out safely, in accordance with our understanding of occupational safety.
  • Retrofitting is possible: Photovoltaic systems can also be retrofitted to existing buildings. This simply involves installing a modified roof membrane.

What are lightweight photovoltaic modules?

Lightweight photovoltaic modules, unlike conventional photovoltaic modules, are manufactured without glass, using a plastic base. This makes them not only flexible but also exceptionally light. The patented modules from two leading manufacturers, tested by Herchenbach, weigh only 3.3 kg per square meter. This represents a reduction of at least 30% compared to conventional PV modules. Furthermore, the modules are only a few millimeters thick and can be optimally adapted to the shape of roof membranes.
